IoD Humber Lunch with Midge Ure
12:00 - 15:30
Kingston Suite, KCOM Stadium
Midge Ure, the co-founder of Band Aid and Live Aid, will be the key speaker at this year’s annual Humber Luncheon which kick-starts Humber Business Week 2017 in our City of Culture year.
Midge is a globally known musician who has been through the process of re-inventing himself several times to compete in the world of music and he enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s, most notably as frontman of Ultravox.
November 25, 1984 was an historic day for pop music, when 36 artists by the collective name Band Aid gathered at SARM Studios to record Do They Know It’s Christmas?, a song Midge had just written with Bob Geldof as their contribution to highlighting the Ethiopian famine relief.
The success of this project led to Live Aid the following summer, a global concert that he organised with Geldof, with the aim of pressuring G8 leaders into ending world poverty.
