Inspiring Women Dinner

07-06-2017
18:30 - 21:30
Holiday Inn Marina Hotel

We are delighted to again host our Inspiring Women Dinner.  Our evening will be complemented by superb female speakers who will entertain and inspire.

Susan Capes, Assistant Curator for Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd will deliver a fascinating presentation of Madame Clapham, Hull’s most famous dressmaker who achieved unrivalled success in the late 19th/early 20th century.

A highly ambitious couturier and shrew businesswoman, Madame Clapham rose from humble beginnings to dress the aristocracy and royalty, providing employment for hundreds of local women at her Kingston Square salon.

Hull-born journalist and documentary photographer Dr Lee Karen Stow will present a slideshow talk about her work highlighting the largely forgotten women of war whilst sharing images from her international touring exhibition Poppies: Women, War, Peace.
She will also reveal a glimpse of her new exhibition TORN, launching for City of Culture in November.
