Biz Week is co-ordinated by a steering group of volunteers who give their time to bring together the week-long programme of events on both banks of the Humber

Attracting key support from event holders and sponsorship from supporters. Their work brings Business Week to life each year.


Kath Lavery - Business Week chair

Kath Lavery was born out in Holderness although she has lived in Hull since her twenties. She is an Information Science graduate but has carried out many roles in Hull over a career spanning 35 years. As Chair of the Business Week Steering Group, Kath is well known in Hull for working across all sectors including the NHS and Hull’s business community, bringing energy and commitment to everything she does. She has been involved in Business Week since the very beginning and is looking forward to another superb week of events this June.

Pat Coyle

Although born and bred in the North East, Pat moved to Hull in 1987 and has now adopted Hull as her “home town” having lived here longer than she has lived anywhere else.

Pat is the Client Relations Director at Rollits LLP, a regional commercial law firm with offices in Hull and York and sits on the Branch Board of the East Yorkshire (Humber) Branch of the Institute of Directors. A champion of Business Week, she has organised many successful “BizWeek” lunches and events over the last few years and was delighted to join the Steering Group for the 10th anniversary year in 2014.

Bill Walker

Bill is Director of Strategic Relationships & Knowledge Exchange at the University of Hull, ensuring the University is engaged effectively in the region’s business and political communities. He is the primary University ‘connector’ for local authorities, politicians  and the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership and also with regional organisations including Yorkshire Universities, the CBI, Institute of Directors and For Entrepreneurs Only. He helps organise the All Party Parliamentary Group for Yorkshire & Northern Lincolnshire.


Stephen Silvester

Stephen is the Inward Investment Project Manager within East Riding of YorkshireCouncil's Economic Development Team with the primary aim of attracting new business to the area. Having grown up predominately in the East Riding, Stephen studied Business at Sheffield University before returning to a role with the council and has been passionately promoting the area as a business location ever since. Having experienced and enjoyed Business Week since its inception, Stephen welcomed the opportunity to join the Steering Group in 2012.


Louise Babych

Louise is a Development Manager within the Partnerships team at Hull 2017, the charity set up to deliver the UK City of Culture this year held in Hull.  Before moving to Hull in 2013 Louise built up a credible career in London and Manchester in career consulting and talent management and brings with her a wealth of expertise in business development and management of large scale events.
Louise is delighted to be joining the steering group in this very special year and excited by the opportunities 2017 can bring for businesses in Hull and the wider Humber region.

Charles Lewis

Charles Lewis is a chartered accountant formerly with Ernst & Young. He wasinvolved with a wide range of publicly quoted and owner managed businesses as client service leader involving the co-ordination of all Ernst & Young  
services. In later years he became the managing partner at Ernst & Young, Hull which was a fully autonomous business unit with a staff of more than 140 and a multi million pound turnover. Since his retirement he has had a wide portfolio of business, public sector and charitable interests currently including locally Hull Citycare Ltd, Catzero Ltd,  Bondholder Scheme Ltd and Humberside Youth Association.


Paul Baxter

Paul is a director of Arrival PR, the communications partner for Humber Business Week since 2015. Paul, a former business, news and sports editor of the Hull Daily Mail, plays a key role in coordinating media coverage of Business Week, including pre-promotional material and management of the Humber Business Week website and mobile app. Paul is also on hand to help event holders promote their activities during Business Week and provide advice on how to best market events and attract attendees.


Katy Wood

Katy is a PR consultant at Arrival PR, the communications partner for Humber Business Week since 2015. Katy helps to coordinate media coverage and programme updates for Humber Business Week website. This includes attending regular steering group and stakeholder meetings, writing press releases, coordinating media enquiries and arranging media interviews during the week itself. Katy, who worked as a journalist and health reporter at the Hull Daily Mail for almost 10 years, also supports stakeholders in promoting their events and activities prior to and during the week.


Sarah Mckenzie

Sarah joined the Humber Business Week Steering group at the conclusion of the 2016 event, having played a key role in the development of a new mobile app for the week in her work at Hull-based Styletech Solutions. Sarah also oversaw the introduction of competitions held throughout the week, giving smaller businesses the chance to be involved for the first time by donating prizes for delegates throughout the week. Sarah, now owner of Sales Lead Genie Limited, is assisting again in 2017 in bringing together a wide range of prizes, and helping drive engagement on social media.

Violet Glenton

Violet is a Business Development Manager for Sutcliffe Consulting Engineers, a local Building Services Consultancy. Born and raised in Hull, Violet is proud of her home town and aspires to showcase the great business community it offers. 
Whilst working in many different sectors she shows enthusiasm and drive to engage with each business she encounters. Violet joined the Humber Business Week Steering group in 2017 as a result of the success of events from the year before. 
Violet is assisting Sarah in competition prize acquisition and social media engagement.


Mandy Abbey

Mandy is a Senior Project Administrator working for the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research
and Enterprise) at the University of Hull, and one of her projects includes providing administrative support for Humber Business Week 2017. Mandy is the main contact for those enquiring about hosting an event during the week and can help with advice on the week's schedule and possible event locations which may work well.
